How We Make Disciples
Fellowship is committed to the mission of the gospel. Our aim is to lower the bar for "church" (activities at a building) and raise the bar of "discipleship" (following Jesus in everyday life). But when we say, 'raise the bar of discipleship,' we really mean "normal" New Testament Christianity. We're convinced that following Jesus on the mission of the gospel as his disciples is…
- what Jesus commanded us to do,
- the best way to live life,
- and the best thing for city.
It's pretty simple, we believe Jesus is good for people.
Our Aim
At Fellowship, we’re called to “be the church for one another and our city in everyday life.” In short, this means because of who Jesus is and what he did (the gospel) we are a gathering of ordinary people learning to live out the gospel identity (worshippers, learners, missionaries, family) and character of Jesus (joy, humility, courage, optimism) in everyday life (rest, work, eat, play).
Structure
The structure that supports who we are (gospel identity) and how we live (everyday life) to reproduce disciples of Jesus has three levels:
- Weekly Corporate Gatherings (large)
- Missional Communities (small)
- Fight Clubs (3–4 men or women)
Weekly Corporate Gatherings
Each Sunday morning, our Missional Communities (MCs) and friends gather to sing to Jesus, hear from Jesus through his Word, respond to Jesus, and then we’re sent out to follow him in the mission of the gospel. The gospel is celebrated and applied to both followers of Jesus and our not-yet-believing friends. This is a wonderful environment to live out our identity as Worshippers (celebrating God in song), Learners (listening to and being shaped by the gospel), Missionaries (being continually called and equipped to share the good news) and Family (sharing life together).
Missional Communities
Missional Communities (MCs) are the primary identity of Fellowship and the primary means by which we seek to fulfill Jesus’ mission to make disciples. A Missional Community is a gospel community (small group of people learning to live like FAMILY) of Jesus worshippers (WORSHIPPER) that lives out the mission of Jesus together (MISSIONARIES) to a specific people group (geographically defined or socially defined) by displaying and declaring the gospel to others—both those who believe it (LEARNERS) and those who are being exposed to it. Therefore, we have MCs scattered all throughout Jonesboro, ASU, and several neighboring cities.
Fight Clubs
Flowing out of MCs, Fight Clubs (FCs) are groups of two to five (gender specific, not co-ed) followers of Jesus that meet weekly and fight together to see, know, love and experience Jesus. FCs encounter God in His Story through shared study (Bible reading and obeying as Learners), pursue accountability by gospeling one another (gospel community as Family), and pray for not-yet believing friends (as Worshippers and Missionaries).
